Mion (N/R), Mar 24, GNA - NORSAAC, a non-governmental organisation, has trained stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the Mion District to ensure the efficient running of the programme.
The training built the capacity of participants, drawn from the District LEAP Implementation Committee (DLIC), to understand issues arising out of the implementation of the LEAP programme in the area and to ensure that qualified people benefited from the programme.
The training formed part of the implementation of the Grassroot Rising for Enhanced LEAP (GREL) project aimed at ensuring increased joint monitoring and feedback between the government and beneficiaries of LEAP in the district.
GREL is a one year project being implemented by NORSAAC with funding from Christian Aid, and it seeks to advocate for citizens’ monitoring of the implementation of the LEAP programme in all the 21 beneficiary communities in the district to ensure efficiency and success.
Ms Kawusada Abubakari, Gender and Governance Manager of NORSAAC, a participant at the event, urged DLIC members to properly target the beneficiaries to enjoy the LEAP programme.
She said studies by NORSAAC indicate that DLIC had not been functional as members did not hold meetings to discuss the implementation of LEAP in the district, a situation which was affecting the implementation of the programme hence the training.
Madam Vivien Anyaakuu, Mion District Social Welfare Officer, spelt out the roles of DLIC members, which included identifying extremely poor communities to benefit from LEAP.
