Accra, March 16, GNA - Tidyup Ghana Ltd, a waste management company providing environmental sanitation services through a waste compacting technology, has launched a GH?2.5 million Waste Transfer Station at Mallam in Accra, to deliver innovative waste management services.
TidyUp's Solid waste transfer station uses state-of -the-art German made waste compaction and recycling machines to help rid the country from filth.
With the support from Premium Bank’s Help Station, TidyUp was able to complete the construction of its Waste Transfer Station and develop its business management and operations model.
The Help station is a vibrant SME business support and entrepreneurship development initiative of Premium Bank.
Its focus is to provide businesses with an unparalleled support service, a high level of engagement and capacity building aimed at ensuring their growth, resilience and competitiveness.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Minister of Business Development lauded Premium Bank’s quest to provide businesses in Ghana with an unparalleled support service, a high level of engagement and capacity building aimed at ensuring the growth, credit worthiness and investment attraction of the businesses under their care.
“With a focus that goes beyond financing, to include capacity building, marketing & publicity, network building and business growth, the Help station aims to support 10,000 SMEs and Entrepreneurs in Ghana,” he said.
“I entreat all startups or existing small –medium sized businesses to take full advantage of the benefits The Help station is currently offering, to grow and sustain their businesses,” he said.
He said TidyUp state-of-the-art technology from Germany was providing an innovative way to manage waste disposal in Weija-Gbawe enclave and its surrounding communities.
“This is a real solution to one of the many problems we face as a society, “he added.
He said the Ministry of Business Development would ensure the provision of an enabling environment for the successful development of all businesses, most especially those that had successfully passed through the able hands of Premium Bank and the Help station.
Mr Kwasi Tumi, the Managing Director Premium Bank, said the bank’s insights into the acute business needs of the SMEs had enabled it to devise total solutions for the often forgotten but most critical sector of the economy.
He said the Bank saw the potential in Tidy-Up Ghana’s business and “leveraging on our experience and expertise, offered what in our opinion was the support needed through our business delivery channel, The Help Station, and the end result is what has brought us
here together today”.
He said the bank was ready to support SMEs through the Help Station our unique SME network that helps our clients address the challenges that makes financial institutions shy away from SMEs.
Mr Steven Kofi Ampofo, Chief Executive Officer TidyUp Ghana, said the company was committed to environmental sanitation.
He said solid waste management was an expensive venture especially transportation to the final disposal sites, which were getting farther away from the sources of generation.
Accra alone generates about 3000 tons of solid waste per day. Out of this figure only about 70 per cent is collected and this accounts for the heaps of solid waste we see in the cities and towns mostly near market centres and low income or densely populated areas.
“TidyUp is here to change the status quo by turning this enclave into a waste industrial park.
“We would recycle papers, cardboards, plastics, Styrofoam and convert PET bottles into flakes and mould them back into bottles. We would also recycle glass and use it for sand paper,” Mr Ampofo said.
Mr Ampofo said with the right mindset on solid waste, incomes could be generated from recovery of useful items while protecting the environment at the same time.
He appealed to the government to encourage entrepreneurs in the solid waste management business to improve the status quo and to put up recovery and recycling plants.
Mr Ampofo expressed appreciation to Premium Bank through for the unparalleled financial and support service.
