Cape Coast, March 15, GNA - World Pulse, an international social network group of women, has been launched in Cape Coast with a call on women to use digital media to educate, raise awareness and transform their societies.
The Network Group, which harnesses the power of digital communication to connect and unite women's voices for change worldwide, provides safe and supportive online space for women.
It exists in more than 190 countries across the world and help women to exchange stories and resources to improve on their lives and that of their communities.
The ceremony, which was on the theme: “Internet and Women empowerment” brought together young professional women from Fire Service, Nurses and Journalists, as well as queen mothers and students from across the Central Region.
Launching the Group, Mrs. Chi Yvonne Leina, African Regional Lead for World Pulse, said the network used the internet/online to empower women and the impact went beyond all borders and boundaries.
She said through the digital connections, World Pulse had helped women to start businesses, build movements and collectively improved the lives of more than 2.9 million people in the world.
Mrs Leina, a Cameroonian women’s right advocate, however, advised women ‘to put their moral lenses on’ when using the internet and ensure that they learnt positive things to add value to themselves.
Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe, Central Regional Director of the Department of Gender, advised the youth especially women to be mindful of the pictures they posted on social media as it had dire consequences on their lives.
She noted that social media had become part and parcel of life and therefore, there was the need for the youth especially women to be guided when using it.
“Avoid posting your personal problems on Facebook, whatsapp, twitter, instagram or on any other social media platforms. Your personal problems require personal solutions not social attention,” she warned.
Nana Ama Amissah III, Queen Mother of Mankessim and President of the Central Regional Queen Mothers Association, encouraged young women to take their studies serious, abstain from pre-marital sex and remain focus on achieving their dreams and aspirations in life.
Mrs Shirley Asiedu Addo, the Network Coordinator, said women were naturally good at social networking and the internet as a tool for social networking should be used to affect lives positively.
