Zebilla (U/E), March 15, GNA - One hundred and twenty households in the Bogore community of the Bawku West District without electricity have received solar chargeable lamps for their households to generate energy.
The “Light A Village” a Texas based non-governmental organisation, working to improve the lives of people in deprived communities, also donated teaching and learning materials including foot wear, school uniforms, and T-Shirts, pencils and books to the Bogore Community Primary and Junior High Schools at a cost of GH? 11,000.
Mr James Quartey, the President of the NGO who presented the items to the beneficiaries, said the NGO was helping to alleviate energy problem in deprived communities before they were hooked to the national grid.
The chargeable lamps have storage power units, solar panels, light bulbs and USB cords.
Mr Quartey disclosed that more social interventions programmes were being rolled out to aid communities and urged the beneficiaries to use the gargets for the intended purpose as that would help them to champion the course of fighting poverty in the area.
Mr Stephen Akugri, former Assemblyman for the area, said the intervention would go a long way to improve upon the socio-economic lives of the people.
He called on other non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, the district assemblies and individuals to assist the area with a community library to assist the children in research work.
He appealed to the government to assist the community with a dam so that farmers could do dry season farming.
