Yendi (N/R), March 13, GNA - A nine-member commission, constituted by the Catholic Church, has been inaugurated in Yendi with a call on members to work tirelessly in ensuring lasting and sustained peace in conflict areas of the north.
The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission has Mr Emmanuel Wumbiyeli, from the Bimbilla Parish as the President, Mr Anthony Gornah, Saboba Parish, Vice President, Mr Paul Atia, Gushegu Parish, Secretary, Mr Jacob Binlu, Publicity Officer, Madam Florence Kukura, Treasurer and Mr Peter Atia, Yendi Cathedral, Co-ordinator.

In his inaugural address, the Yendi Catholic Bishop, Vincent Sowah Boi-Nal, appealed to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMADAS), Non-Governmental Organisations and other benevolent societies to support the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission to enable them to work effectively in the promotion of peace, particularly in chieftaincy conflict area.
Bishop Sowah Boi-Nal said the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission was an important organ of the church nationwide working towards peace and tasked members not wait for conflicts to spark before they started work.
He said the Church had a task to work on peace building by putting in place programmes on peace education in their parishes.
Bishop Sowah Boi-Nal said there were about 225 chieftaincy cases throughout the country and that there was no document on succession to enskinment in various traditional councils to allow smooth and peaceful enskinment of chiefs.
He said recently the members of the commission were in Bimbilla on peace mission and met with the Royal Gates, imams and assembly members towards seeking lasting peace in the area.
The Coordinator of Inter-Religious Dialogue, Reverend Father John Mensah Semnanke, who swore the members into office, advised them to work as a team and bring peace to their areas.
