Sekondi, March 11, GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, the Western Regional Police Commander says the command would work extra hard to ensure that peace prevails in the Region.
This will enable the inhabitants to go about their domestic and economic activities in a more congenial manner.
He said despite the relative calm in the Region, chieftaincy disputes and galamsey (illegal scale mining) continued to be a great worry in the Region which called for prompt attention.
Citing the chieftaincy dispute in the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional area and others across the Region, the Regional Commander called on the Regional House of Chiefs and the various courts to expedite action on some of the chieftaincy issues before them to help avoid conflicts.
DCOP Duku said this at his maiden interaction with journalists in the Region advised all interested parties in any chieftaincy dispute in the Region, to use the due processes; including the courts in resolving such issues.
The Regional Commander also expressed concern about the activities of illegal miners whose activities had caused considerable damage to the environment and water bodies in the Region.
DCOP Duku disclosed that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would continue to organise operations to flush out the ‘galamsey’ operations whilst stakeholder engagement was ongoing to find lasting solutions.
He urged the media to continue with their watchdog role and support the Service to accomplish its mandate.
DCOP Duku said: “I therefore crave on your support in all endeavours of the police to ensure that the Region becomes one of the most peaceful in the country."
He urged the media not to hesitate to cross check with the police for confirmation or otherwise of issues bothering on security rather than putting wrong information into the public domain.
DCOP Duku expressed the hope that residents in the Region would continue to be law abiding and work together to improve upon the level of security in the Region.
