Accra, March 10, GNA - Kick Malaria Out of Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), would on May Day launch a nation-wide tree-planting exercise in memory of the fallen coaches of Ghana.
The coaches are; C.K. Gyamfi (Nana Gyamfi Kumi), Osam Duodu, Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie, Ben Kwoufie, Jones Attuquayefio, Sam Arday and Offei Ansah.
Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday.
He named the trees expected to be planted as mahogany, mango, sapele, teak, oil palm, coconut, acacia, Cinderella and cacia.
Mr Osei Bonsu noted that the exploits of the coaches in their effort to raise the standard of football in the country could not be over-emphasised.
He made particular mention of coach Gyamfi who headed the Black Stars to win their second African Cup of Nations trophy in 1965 and Sam Arday for introducing multi-purpose soccer which helped the Black Starlets to win the Under-17 trophy in 1991and 1995 respectively.
Mr Osei Bonsu appealed to the Ghana Football Association, Forestry Commission, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Police Service and other corporate bodies and institutions to support the NGO to realise its dreams.
He appealed to soccer fans to participate in the exercise and also plant at least two trees at their homes home when the exercise takes off.
Mr Osei Bonsu expressed the hope that the 20 million trees, when planted, would also safeguard the environment.
