Tarkwa (W/R), March 9, GNA - Two persons, who were caught for allegedly mining illegally on the concession of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL),Tarkwa mine, have been granted bail in the sum of 2,000 Ghana cedis each, with a surety each, by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.
The accused, Kwame Ackon, a 21-year old electrician and Kobena Esoun, carpenter, 24, pleaded not guilty.
They are to re-appear before the Court on Tuesday April 4 for prosecution to begin.
The Prosecutor, Detective Inspector Clement Amoah, told the Court presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that the complainants in the case were security officers of GGL, Tarkwa.
Detective Inspector Amoah said on February 20 this year, the security officers of the company were on their routine patrol duty when they spotted the accused persons mining illegally at the Akontasi cut 7 area within Goldfields concession.
He said the accused persons were arrested with one sack of suspected gold bearing sand and handed over to the police.
The Prosecutor said the exhibits was sent to the Assayer for examination and report.
He said on March 3, the assay report received quoted the gold content as 0.37 grams valued GH¢ 64. 58.
