Kwamoso (E/R), Mar 09, GNA – The Akuapem North Municipal Assembly and the Lands Commission have jointly set up a special taskforce to level illegal structures built on the Kwamoso state lands.
The over 4,000-acre land was acquired by the government for the development of the now defunct Kwamoso oil palm plantation.
It has in recent times come under massive encroachment, with some chiefs and individuals scrambling to seize and sell part of the land to estate developers.
Mr. Hans Jorie, the Eastern Regional Lands Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that what was happening was completely unacceptable and could not be allowed to continue.
He said the indiscipline and impunity must stop, adding that, it was important for people to respect the law and accept to follow laid down procedures.
He vowed to pull down any structure, unlawfully erected on the land, and said, the developers have been requested to report to the regional secretariat of the commission, with legal documents on portions of the land they had appropriated.
