Tema, March 9,GNA - Government has been urged to look for local sources of energy to power the one-district-one-factory programme in the long term.
Mr. Samuel Asare, a financial analyst, said such off-grid energy development activities would give impetus to the overall industrialisation of the country.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he said when most local sources of energy are tapped to aid local consumption, excess supply could be streamed onto the national grid to earn the district income to fund other development activities.
“Technologies abound in renewable energy generation such as biogas from organic wastes from land fills, public toilets, farms and markets. Streams can be dammed in villages to create multi purpose dams. Wind and solar are also available,” he said.
According to Mr Asare ,who is also the Manager of Ashaiman Timbermarket Cooperative Credit Union, other sources of energy would definitely emerge as soon as a serious search for local energy begins.
“There is creativity in every human being. It is the duty of society to create the enabling environment for talents to shine. Young people may not have been in a science classroom but they appreciate the pulley, gravity, velocity and acceleration and other principles and laws of nature through playing, making and operating toys. They only need to apply such knowledge in the search for local problems when encouraged,” he said.
