Credit union shares its profit with health centre
Shama, March 31, GNA The Shama Community Cooperative Credit Union (SHACCCU) Limited has shared some of its 2013 profit with the psychiatric unit of the Shama Health Centre of the Western Region to enhance work of the staff.With a membership of 9,813, the SHACCCU declared a net profit of GH¢ 98,113,32 out of which it bought a refrigerator, swivel chair, ceiling fan and a cabinet at the cost of 4,000 cedis for the health centre.Presenting the items Mr Kwaku Nyarko Addo, General Manager of the SHACCCU, said the donation was unions social responsibility and that it had provided the community with streetlights and assisted some of the schools with their needs.Mr Addo said the plight of the health centre remains first on their priority list of assistance as it serves a large community in the district while reports have it that the staff work under constraints with limited resources to save lives.Receiving the items, Dr Christabel Aygpah, medical doctor in charge of the centre, complained that the health facility was under-resourced compelling the authorities to improvise.Dr Ayapah said the centre lacked wards, theatre and other facilities so we only detain the patients and refer the serious ones to other hospitals.She said a hospital project that that is at a standstill should be fast tracked to enable the community have quality health care in their own area.GNA
