Professor Paschal Yao Younge, a Ghanaian-born music educator, has paid a courtesy call on Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The visit was to formally invite the Minister to the Global Arts Fest 2026, scheduled for March 17 to 19, 2026, in Athens, Ohio, in the United States.
The engagement focused on Ghana’s cultural representation and leadership at the international festival, which celebrates world music and dance traditions.
Professor Younge said the Global Arts Fest 2026, to be held at the Baker University Center Theatre, would bring together artists, educators and cultural ambassadors from across the world to share artistic perspectives.
He said the festival would promote intercultural understanding through music, dance and creative expression.
As part of the visit, Professor Younge presented Madam Gomashie with a copy of his book, “Music and Dance Traditions of Ghana: History, Performance, and Teaching”, which explores the musical heritage of Ghana’s diverse ethnic groups.
The book features forewords by distinguished scholars, including Daniel Avorgbedor, Komla Amoaku and Francis Nii-Yartey, and provides insights into performance practices and teaching methodologies in Ghanaian music and dance.
Professor Younge said the Minister had been confirmed as Guest of Honour and keynote speaker for the festival’s free public lecture on March 19, 2026.
“She is expected to share perspectives on cultural diplomacy, heritage preservation and creative education with festival participants.”
He said Madam Gomashie, a seasoned creative arts advocate, brought decades of experience in promoting Ghanaian and African culture locally and internationally.
“She has played a key role in advancing cultural initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s identity and global cultural presence.”
Madam Gomashie said cross-cultural artistic exchange and international festivals played a critical role in fostering collaboration among artists and cultural practitioners worldwide.
She expressed optimism that Ghana’s participation in the Global Arts Fest 2026 would create new opportunities for Ghanaian artists on the global stage.
Activities outlined for the festival include performances, workshops and concerts, culminating in a World Music and Dance Concert showcasing international ensembles and diverse artistic traditions.
Professor Younge, who is also a Professor of Music Education at Ohio University, was accompanied by members of his delegation, including Professor Emerita Zelma Badu-Younge and Professor Vladimir L. Marchen?ov.
