Germany defender Jerome Boateng has said he will be fit to play at the upcoming World Cup in Russia after overcoming a thigh muscle injury.
“I can promise that I will be there, yes! Things are really looking very good,” Boateng told the Bild am Sonntag Sunday paper.
Boateng sustained the injury in late April during Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. He is back in individual training and hopes to join full team training next week at their camp in Eppan, Italy.
The title holders Germany play their first World Cup game on June 17 against Mexico, with Sweden and South Korea the other group stage opponents in Russia.
