CHRAJ Blasts Lydia Alhassan For Sharing Food To Voters

 

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has condemned the action of Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, for distributing food to voters during the special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.

This incident has sparked a heated debate about voter influence and electoral ethics in Ghana.

CHRAJ’s Commissioner, Dr. Joseph Whittal, described Alhassan’s actions as “tantamount to corruption” and emphasized that sharing food or money with voters in the queue is a violation of electoral laws.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan initially denied the incident but later defended her actions, claiming they were driven by compassion.

She explained that she provided water and food to voters who appeared tired or hungry.
