Mzbel, a known sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed her appreciation for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, after benefiting from it firsthand.
In a video in circulation on X, Mzbel admitted that she was initially doubtful about the policy’s effectiveness, but her perspective changed when she took a student to Achimota Senior High School for admission.
Expecting to pay for tuition and other fees, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that the government had covered most of the costs.
“I had been hearing about Free SHS on the radio, but I never believed it—until recently. I was taking someone to Achimota School. I withdrew money to buy books and other essentials he would need, but when I asked the teachers, I was told the government had paid for everything, including books, school uniforms, and admission fees,” Mzbel explained.
She noted that she only needed to purchase a mattress and provisions, and praised the policy for easing the financial burden on families. “Nana, you have honoured your promise. I am grateful to you,” Mzbel added.
The Free SHS policy, introduced by President Akufo-Addo in 2017, has been widely praised for expanding access to education, particularly for students from less privileged backgrounds.
Mzbel’s endorsement adds to the positive public feedback surrounding the policy, as many Ghanaians continue to share their experiences with its impact on education affordability.
