The 6th edition of the prestigious Ghana Models Awards, held in Accra, turned into a spectacle of surprises and controversy as organizers made an unexpected decision to redirect the prize package originally designed for the ‘Overall Female Model of the Year’ to the winner of the ‘Commercial Model of the Year’ in the female category.
The spotlight of the night shone brightly on Adwoa Takyiwa Micah, an accomplished alumna of the University of Ghana Business School, as she clinched the title of Commercial Model of the Year. Micah’s victory was accompanied by a cash prize of Ghc 4000, generously sponsored by Glasel Company Limited. The twist in the tale unfolded when organizers, led by Jerry Wonder Sampson, founder of the Ghana Models Awards, decided to reallocate the cash prize meant for the ‘Overall Female Model of the Year’ to Micah, citing her proactive promotion and the highest vote count.
Sampson addressed the audience, justifying the decision by emphasizing the importance of recognizing and rewarding those who actively contributed to the success and reputation of the awards scheme.
The absence of the designated ‘Overall Female Model of the Year’ winner at the event became the catalyst for this unexpected turn of events.
Adwoa Takyiwa Micah, a distinguished graduate of the University of Ghana Business School, holds an Executive MBA in Finance (2021) and a BSc Degree in Finance from Central University (2014). Beyond her modelling achievements, Micah is associated with Godzy Modelling Agency and serves as an Accountant in a reputable Ghanaian firm.
The drama continued with another twist in the awards ceremony, as Glenn Zime, bestowed with the ‘Most Promising Model of the Year,’ unexpectedly received the cash prize intended for the ‘Overall Male Model of the Year.’
The designated winner, Clinton Samuel, was notably absent from the event. Despite the controversies surrounding the cash prizes, Sampson assured that all winners, including Samuel and Zime, would still be honoured with their well-deserved award plaques and recognized as Overall Winners.
The comprehensive list of winners and honorees underscored the diverse talent within the modelling industry, solidifying the Ghana Models Awards as a premier platform for celebrating excellence and contributions to the modelling community.
As the curtains fell on this dazzling event, it left a lingering trail of inspiration, recognition, and a fair share of controversy, setting the stage for another year of celebrating Ghana’s modelling luminaries
