In a recent campaign rally, Alan Kyerematen, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claimed that the Presidency and Vice Presidency should be seen as one ticket and that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has nothing new to offer Ghanaians in the next four years.
However, his strange theory was not supported by the NPP delegates and the Ghanaian electorate, according to Nana Akomea.
Nana Akomea, speaking on Peace Fm’s Kokrokoo programme, stated that the Ghanaian electorate has previously elected Vice Presidents John Mills and John Mahama to the Presidency, highlighting that this disproves Kyerematen’s assertion.
He further revealed that in the 2023 primaries, the NPP delegates overwhelmingly voted for Vice President Bawumia to succeed President Akufo-Addo, despite competing against Kyerematen.
Nana Akomea also mentioned examples such as the sitting presidents of Kenya, Tanzania, and the United States, who had all previously served as vice presidents.
He questioned how Kyerematen could overlook these facts and urged him to focus on his core message rather than demeaning Dr. Bawumia.
Concluding his statement, Akomea affirmed that Dr. Bawumia would soon present a compelling vision and action plan to the nation, which would define his candidature and lead him to victory in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
