Samuel Atta Akyea
In response to allegations made by the legal team of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) led by Kwame Gyan, Samuel Atta Akyea, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee investigating a leaked tape allegedly plotting the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has strongly refuted claims that the committee is exceeding its jurisdiction.
Mr. Atta Akyea, while emphasizing that the committee members fully understand their responsibilities, criticized attempts to instruct or educate the committee on the scope of its work.
In an interview on Citi FM, he stated, “That is totally baseless, nobody can educate us about our remit. Our remit is clear, and we understand what we are doing as a committee. So if anybody says we are trying to exceed our remit, in what areas are we trying to exceed our remit?”
Furthermore, Mr. Atta Akyea expressed his disappointment with individuals who appear before the committee and attempt to dictate how they should work.
He called such behavior sad, unfortunate, and unprofessional.
Asserting that the committee is civil and polite, he insisted that it is unnecessary for witnesses to assume the committee members lack understanding or knowledge of their responsibilities.
The leaked tape involving the removal of the IGP has caused significant controversy and raised concerns about the process and decision-making behind such actions.
The Parliamentary Committee was formed to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure transparency and accountability in the proceedings.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen how the committee will address the allegations made by the legal representatives of the IGP and if any changes will be made to the committee’s approach.
