Vice President Bawumia and his wife with the newly elected executives
THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday marked its 30th anniversary with a thanksgiving service attended by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, among other party stalwarts, at the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The event was held under the theme “[email protected]: Our Shared Tradition, Holding And Working Together A Stable And Prosperous Nation.”
National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who addressed the party members, said the celebration was a moment to share the plans of the current leadership of the party and outdoor their plans to build a united party by resolving all internal challenges, reviewing existing structures and processes, improving the party’s relationship with its external branches, as well as rebuilding and strengthening the relationship between the party and government to achieve the grand aim of ‘Breaking the Eight’ despite the current mid-term challenges Ghana was going through.
“After thirty years of our existence, it must be our resolve to build a proper party membership register to enhance our collective ownership of the party, a party that is united, caring and battle-ready to Break the Eight and to win election after election,” he stressed.
He also emphasised: “Let us see these celebrations marking our 30 years’ history as a serious occasion for rethinking and reminding ourselves of the core values of our tradition. We need to educate our teeming young members on the party’s core values of sacrifice to seek political power and to govern this country along the ideals and philosophy of our founding fathers, namely Joseph Boakye Danquah, George Paa Grant, Obetsebi Lamptey, Edward Akufo-Addo, William Ofori-Atta, Solomon Odamtten, Kofi Abrefa Busia, S.D. Dombo, S.G. Antor, J.A. Braimah, Yakubu Tali (Tolon Na), R.E.G. Armattoe and many others, all of blessed memory.”
Mr. Ntim also paid special tribute to the first and subsequent national executives of the party including B.J. Da Rocha, Leader and Chairman; Joseph Agenim Boateng, Secretary; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, National Organiser; Madam Theresa Amerley Tagoe, Women Organiser; Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, National Youth Organiser; Hackman Owusu Agyemang, National Treasurer and all other founding members.
Also present at the function were Second Lady, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, Chief of Staff Madam Akosua Frema Opare Osei, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, national officers, as well as regional and constituency officers, among others.
The NPP was founded on July 28, 1992.
“The party’s policy is to liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property-owning democracy in Ghana with right to life, freedom and justice, as the principles to which the Government and laws of the land should be dedicated in order specifically, to enrich life, property and liberty of each and every citizen,” the party says.
The 30th anniversary comes on the heels the party’s election of new national executives at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Earlier on Friday, the party executives and others went to the National Mosque in Accra to offer thanks to God after the congregational prayers.
