THE PERENNIAL waste problem in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti region, which poses serious threat to the health of the people who dwell and operate their businesses in the boisterous city, will soon be a thing of the past.
This was after an Italian firm, Apollo Engineering SRL and their partners, Global Incorporated Group, have decided to set up a US$ 100 million Waste Recycling Plant in Kumasi.
The new Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, seemed to have started his official duties on a positive note as a high powered delegation from the Italian Company visited and disclosed their plans to him on Thursday, his first day in office.
The KMA Chief Executive was being taken through a familiarization tour of the KMA at Adum when the delegation arrived. He therefore had to pause for a while to meet and dialogue with the Italian delegation.
Kwabena Adjei-Seffah, representative of the Italian company, stated that his group has plans of establishing waste recycling plants across the ten regions of the country, and they are using Kumasi as the starting point.
He explained that the waste recycling plant is a multi faceted project as it would be used to manufacture manure for agriculture and boost food production, produced bio gas for electricity supply and facilitate glass production, among others.
Mr. Adjei-Seffah noted that the KMA would only do the facilitation process, especially by providing land for the location of the plant, adding that his group would also produce the cash component to help make the project a reality.
The Kumasi Mayor, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, said the idea of setting up a waste recycling plant in Kumasi couldn’t have come at a better time than now, noting that the KMA would partner with genuine companies that desire to develop Kumasi.
