Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of NDC.
Three executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party in the country, have been suspended for allegedly airing their opinions.
The suspended members, who are said to belong to a pro-NDC pressure group, Action Movement of the NDC, are Emmanuel Ashalley Tetteh, Communication Officer in the Klottey Korle Constituency, Kodzo Keglo Hamenya, Secretary in the Okaikoi North Constituency and one Stephen Affutu, a Communication Officer in the Okaikoi Central Constituency, all in the Greater Accra Region.
The splinter group of the NDC has been calling for an early congress for the party to regroup after its humiliating defeat.
During a recent press conference, they accused the immediate past Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah and policy advisor to the former President John Dramani Mahama, Valerie Sawyer, of contributing to the defeat of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region in the 2016 general elections.
According to Action Movement of the NDC, Sylvester Mensah, who was the Campaign Coordinator of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region, failed to provide the necessary resources for members to work for the party’s victory in the 2016 polls.
They claimed the refusal of the former NHIA boss to resource the party was a deliberate move to ensure early retirement of former President John Dramani Mahama from active politics to pave way for him in the 2020 general elections.
The group also criticized the National Organizer of the party, Kofi Adams, who has slapped them with a lawsuit, for allegedly defaming him [Adams] in the commentary over the party’s defeat in 2016 elections.
Valerie Sawyer had earlier described them as rogues and fowl thieves who were fronting for some faceless people in the party.
A letter in possession of DAILY GUIDE titled, ‘Suspension from the National Democratic Congress,’ stated that as a result of a press conference convened by Action Movement, which has been linked to the above members of the main opposition party, the aforementioned members of the party have been suspended.
“The Functional Executive Committee held a meeting to discuss the content of the press conference and found it contrary to the code of conduct and disciplinary code of the party (Articles 45 and 46 of the NDC Constitution,” according to the letter signed by General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
“The Functional Executive Committee of the party in exercise of powers conferred upon it by Article 46 (1) and (2) of the party’s constitution has suspended you from the party with immediate effect, pending a referral to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigations.”
