A Principal Medical Officer at the Trust Hospital, Accra, Dr Maurice Dolla, has expressed concern about rising levels of weight and high blood pressure (BP)-related conditions in the country, especially among the youth. He said the conditions, commonly termed ‘metabolic syndrome’,  were gradually becoming an epidemic in the country and called for urgent changes in lifestyles to contain the situation.

Former Ghana and Bayern Munich defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour, will bury his mother, Gloria Abena Ateah on Saturday, April 29 in Kumasi. Madam Ateah passed away last February after a short illness in Kumasi.

Some Ghanaian economists have urged the government to strictly adhere to prudent financial management in rolling out its industrialisation and agricultural policies. A designer was last Tuesday sentenced to a nine-month jail term by the Accra Circuit Court for defrauding a pastor of GH¢8,000 under the pretext of facilitating his enlistment into the security services. Apart from the custodial sentence, the convict, Henry Kwashie, was also ordered by the court, presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Ayikai Aryetey, to pay a fine of GH¢3, 600 or in default serve an additional nine months in jail.

An auctioneer who auctioned vehicles of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) was the centre of  attraction at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament when he was grilled over the role he played to earn a commission of GH¢33,000. Mr Alex Agyei of Alex Mart Auctioneering, who was engaged by the ministry, auctioned vehicles to the tune of GH¢491, 553 for which he was paid seven per cent as his commission from 2011 to 2013.

A 38-year-old second-hand clothes dealer is currently fighting for her life at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after she was allegedly set on fire by a co-tenant, Godwin Tetteh, at Alajo in Accra. The suspect, a 43-year-old bar attendant, who allegedly set Cindy Aidoo on fire in the wee hours of last Monday in his room, has since been arrested by the Kotobabi Police.
