The new president of the Ghana Badminton Federation (GBF), Mr Evans Yeboah, says he would intensify a drive to get more people to participate in the sport, organise regional and national badminton tournaments and make badminton a national pastime.
He also pledged to provide a permanent place for competitions and the construction of satellite badminton courts across the country.
Minutes after being elected into office by popular acclamation last Saturday, Mr Yeboah said he was optimistic about the commencement of a badminton league in September, as well as the hosting of the first ever badminton world tournament in Ghana later in the year to make the sport attractive to the youth.
The GBF Congress was held at the Media Centre of the Accra Sprts Stadium, with 27 delegates in attendance. It was chaired by former GBF president, Nestor Ghalley, and supervised by the Deputy Director General (Technical) of the National Sports Authority, Saka Acquaye.
Messrs Kingsford Nii Otto, Isaac Elletey and Ernest Sakyi stood unopposed and were elected by popular acclamation as Vice president, General Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
The congress also saw the election through popular acclamation of Messrs Godwill Ntarmah, Skido Achul, Frederick Bonsu and William Quaitoo as executive members, while Nestor Ghalley became an Ex-Officio Member.
