Two separate basketball clinics will come off at the Takoradi Technical University and the University of Ghana courts today and next Saturday respectively.
The clinic, an initiative of Ben Bentil Skills Camp, an NGO, is expected to bring together players aged 14 to 21 to help them acquire elite training and also be abreast of the techniques of the game.
Ben Bentil, a Ghanaian professional basketball player, who features for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA) will conduct the clinic with a view to giving back to society.
It has always been my dream to come home and help other kids who have aspirations like me to realise their dreams. Playing out there is a blessing that everybody would love to experience.
There's a lot of opportunities out there so I came back to help the kids get the same opportunity that I have today, he added.
For his part, the vice-president of the Ghana Basketball Association, Mr Iddrisu Gabriel, expressed appreciation to the organisers and sponsors of the clinic and called on other philanthropists to emulate the gesture.
Mr Gideon Kodo, Events and PR Manager of Promasidor Ghana Limited, a sponsor of the clinic, noted that his company deemed it necessary to invest in lesser known sports as the nation's focus was always shifted to football.
Other sponsors are Decathlon, Bel-aqua Mineral Water, Twitchouse, OSB Legon and Basketball Nation.
