The Youth in Agona West Constituency in the Central Region have been advised to stop dragging the name of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mrs Cynthia Morrison, into the appointment of a municipal chief executive for the municipality.
According to Mr Kofi Osei, the Constituency Organiser, the MP had no hand in the nomination of Justina Marigold Assan as the first woman MCE for the municipality since the commencement of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
He stated that the nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives across the country was the preserve of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and that the MP had no power to manipulate the President to appoint his preferred candidate.
The constituency organiser was responding to concerns of some aggrieved NPP youth who had registered their displeasure about the appointment of Madam Assan as the MCE for Agona West on Thursday.
The aggrieved youth have expressed unhappiness about the appointment of Madam Marigold Assan since their preferred candidate, Mr Evans Onomah Coleman, a former Constituency Chairman, was not appointed.
A total of 212 MMDCEs were announced by the President through the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Madam Hajia Alima Mahama, last Wednesday.
Mr Osei noted that it was the choice of the President who has been appointed and that all the people in the constituency should not agitate against the nominee but rather rally behind her for the growth of the municipality.
Nominee’s credentials
He indicated that the nominee had been an active member of the party for many years and that she had a wealth of experience as a teacher to attract the desired development for the benefit of the people.
Mr Osei expressed optimism that the nominee, if duly confirmed by assembly members, would work to improve the living conditions of the people.
Call to the youth
He urged them to direct their energies towards the propagation of the policies and programmes of the party to create equal opportunities for all.
‘’As I speak to you, Mrs Morrison is working so hard to lobby for a factory to be located in the area to create direct and indirect jobs for the youth’’ he pointed out, and called on them to stop creating unnecessary tension in the municipality and support the party to execute its plans for the area.
