Police briefing
Briefing the press in Kumasi yesterday, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Ken Yeboah, said on Sunday, April 23, 2017, the Obuasi Divisional Police Command received a complaint from some Chinese expatriates that a group of five men armed with pump action guns and dressed in military uniform had attacked them and robbed them of the said items.
He said the information was relayed to all police stations and checkpoints to be on the lookout for the said car, with registration number AC 1534-16.
Mr Yeboah said about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017, the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit had intelligence that two men were in possession of a stolen ash Honda Accord saloon car at Krofrom in Kumasi.
He said a team was dispatched there and Danso and Asamoah were arrested, along with the car, which had been affixed with a DV 3536-17 number plate.
He said the two men mentioned Asare as one of their accomplices and he too was picked up at Sofoline in Kumasi.
Mr Yeboah said Danso and Asare admitted before the police that they were part of the gang that had robbed the Chinese miners at Obuasi and mentioned their other accomplices as Acheampong, alias IK; Kwasi, alias Selasie, and Yaw.
He said the suspects later led the police to Danso’s apartment at Obuasi, where two pump action guns, two pistols and a live cartridge were retrieved from the ceiling.
“They also led the police to a bush where they had kept the original number plate of the said car,” he said.
Mr Yeboah said during police investigations, it came out that Acheampong, now at large, Asare and Danso, were on the police wanted list for a series of robberies at Chinese mining sites at Manso Watreso and its surrounding areas.
