The Ghana: 60 Years On Planning Committee has announced a GH?50,000 cash prize for the winner of a two-leg match involving rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Initially, the two teams were expected to receive only GH?50,000 each as appearance fees for the games slated for May 1 and May 28 at the Accra Sports Stadium and Kumasi Sports Stadium respectively.
The appearance fees totalling GH? 100,000 was donated on April 25 by Vivo Energy Ghana, distributors and marketers of Shell petroleum products at a ceremony held at the Black Star Square in Accra.
However, the Chairman of the Ghana: 60 Years On Planning Committee, Ken Amankwah, upped the ante saying the players had to be motivated further to give off their best.
This brings to GHC 100,000 the total amount the winning team of the exhibition match will take home.
Mr Laud Commey, the Chairperson of the Ghana: 60 Years On Events Sub-Committee added that the games between Hearts and Kotoko will kick-start the celebration of Ghanaian football as part of 60th-anniversary celebrations.
The main tie for the day involving Hearts and Kotoko, scheduled for 3.00pm will be preceded by curtain-raisers involving retired players of Hearts taking on their counterparts from Kotoko while members of the physically challenged national team, the Black Giants will feature in another match.
