Thirteen members of the Delta Force who were arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit court on Thursday for forcibly throwing out the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator have been remanded in custody to reappear on April 20, 2017.
However, after the court hearing, the 13 accused persons absconded before the police could take them into custody.
They were charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer, causing unlawful damage and preventing a public officer from doing his lawful duty.
Graphic Online’s Kumasi correspondent, Donald Ato Dapatem who was in court on Thursday reported that, it all started with whispering and shouts of no, no, when the court presided over by Mary Nsenkyire said the 13 should be remanded into custody.
According to Dapatem, immediately word went out that the accused persons have been remanded, some of their supporters who were outside the courtroom, started destroying the notice board at the court and surged towards the court room, but the police prevented them.
In the ensuing melee, those who had been remanded left the court and joined those outside and moved away from the court claiming that they were going to the party headquarters.
