Although the crowd chanted “Raffy” anytime Ms Rafiatu Fuseini came on stage tipping her to wear the crown, Ms Vanessa Asantewaa Ohemeng, was adjudged winner of Miss Legon 2017 last saturday night.
Vanessa, 19, reading Public Administration, Psychology and Chinese beat 14 other contestants to grab the coveted title.
As the new queen, Vanessa, a Level 100 student received a Gh¢2,500 cash prize from Twithouse, organisers of the pageant, one week fully paid trip to Dubai courtesy Koppan Hospitality and a 32 inch TV set from Electroland Ghana.
She, who also won the Miss Catwalk award, will in addition receive monthly products from Woodin, Hero Collections, Silverbird Cinemas, First Choice and Promasidor Ghana.
And during her reign, Vanessa will be an ambassador for Woodin, First Choice and Colgate for a year.
Medikal
The first and second runners-up positions went to Ms Benedicta Dorcas Tetteh, a 20-year old Level 200 Business Administration student and and Ms Rafiatu Fuseini, 21, Level 200 Bsc Agricultural Science student respectively.
Benedicta who also grabbed the Miss Talented award went home with Gh¢1,000, a table top fridge, products from Woodin, Hero Collections, Silverbird Cinemas, First Choice and Promasidor Ghana while Rafiatu received received GH¢500, a microwave, products from Woodin, Hero Collections, Silverbird Cinemas, First Choice and Promasidor Ghana.
The rest of the contestants also received products from products from Woodin, Hero Collections, Silverbird Cinemas, First Choice and Promasidor Ghana.
Patrons at the event
In a chat with Showbiz after the event, Vanessa said winning the pageant was just the beginning of bigger things to come for her. “ This is the time for me to find myself, find who Vanessa is, so that I will be able to step into other pageants with much more confidence”, she added.
The show which started two hours before the advertised time was laced with some music performances. Eunice, a Dancehall artiste did a good job with her act getting patrons to sing along with her.
Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) nominee for Artiste of the Year, Medikal, was also on hand to thrill the crowd.
