An uninspiring Bechem United side yesterday paid dearly for their lucklustre performance and went down 4-2 to Accra Hearts of Oak in their Premier League match at the Accra Stadium.
Hearts made their intentions clear immediately Referee Sylvester Adzoku blew his whistle for the commencement of the match with come-back kid, Winful Cobbinah, quickly lifting the ball to Thomas Abbey, who had taken off into the Bechem goal area.
The Hearts captain managed to control the ball after shrugging off a challenge from a Bechem defender, who passed the ball to his onrushing goalkeepr Ernest Adu, but Adu missed the ball which went straight into his net for an own goal and Hearts’ opener.
For the second time in the match, Bechem United were caught ball-watching when Cobbinah’s quick corner kick was met with a powerful header from Richard Akrofi to cushion Hearts’ lead in the 32nd minute.
The trend continued for about seven minutes until Hearts defender Fatau Mohammed received a pass from a free kick in the Bechem area and fired a bullet of a shot for the homesters’ third goal.
Bechem then came into the second half with a more convincing approach and managed to cancel one of the goals in the 47th minute through Nana Antwi Manu.
They continued to fight for more goals as they made a series of incursions into the Hearts danger zone. Their effort, however, paid off when in the 54th minute dreadlocked Abdul Bashiru, who had a great game, capped it with a goal from a corner kick which zoomed straight into the net.
The two goals by Bechem sent the Hearts rear panicking with some of the players resorting to delay tactics as the visitors piled more pressure in search of the much needed equaliser.
They were, however, unlucky when a quick Hearts attack saw Cosmos Dauda, lurking in the visitors area, run past a Bechem defender to seal the doom of the visitors with the fourth goal.
