Charles Andoh, the 35- year old man who forged the signature of the Minister of Energy, to engage in a fictitious oil deal, has been granted bail by the police, after 48 hours in custody.
Andoh was handed over to the police Wednesday after he had confessed at the office of the Minister, Mr Emmanuel Armah - Kofi Buah, that indeed he forged his signature in a bid to defraud Gonjuana Oil Company of China.
He is to report back to the police after the Easter festivities for further investigations.Â
The Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Paul Kontomah, told the Daily Graphic that on April 11, 2014, the Chief Executive of Muira Energy, Mr Kareem Abu, reported to the police that Andoh, a former administrator of the company, had forged his signature and that of Mr Buah to engage in a shady oil deal.
Abu informed the Minister, caused Andoh's arrest and sent him to the office of Mr Buah, where he confessed to his misdeeds. He was later handed over to the police.
Mr Kontomah said investigations revealed that Andoh first wrote a letter, purportedly from Muira Energy, with a forged signature of Abu, and addressed it to the Ministry of Energy, asking for a concession at Cape Three Points to drill oil.
It was dated September 3, 2014.
He later forged another letter from the Ministry with Mr Buah's signature, which stated that he had been granted the concession. That letter was dated September 24, 2014.
Mr Kontomah stated that Andoh had been communicating with Gonjuana Oil Company from China and had intended to lure them into the country with the letter to defraud them.
But Abu got wind of the shady deal and caused his arrest.
Meanwhile Mr Buah has forwarded documents regarding the issue to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO ) for further investigations and to ensure that all persons involved are dealt with by the law.
