A task force from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) will, from Monday, February 24, 2014 carry out the inspection of some business centres which quote their prices in dollars to ensure that they comply with the directives of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The BoG has banned the pricing of goods and services in foreign currencies in the country in an effort to shore up the value of the cedi.
Consequently, the task force will carry out the inspection of hotels, forex bureaux, shops and all other bodies that quote prices in foreign currencies to ensure that the directive is complied with.
In a related development, EOCO says the deadline for the tax amnesty which was declared by the government for companies and other persons liable to pay tax has long expired.
Therefore, from Monday, March 3, 2014, a task force from EOCO, in conjunction with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), will undertake an exercise to investigate, arrest and prosecute all companies and persons who have failed or refused to fulfil their tax obligations.
The organisation said the initial phase of the exercise would cover rent tax, pay-as-you-earn tax, withholding tax, non-registration, failure to collect VAT, failure to file VAT returns with the GRA and non-filing of annual returns with the GRA.Â
EOCO asked business owners to check the identification of any persons from its outfit as they would be carrying the necessary identifications.
It also called on the business community to call 0302663501 or 0243312610 for any clarifications.
