The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general election, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, were given a rousing welcome when they arrived at Akyem Oda to attend two funerals. The funerals were of Madam Mary Kumiwaa Attafuah, mother of Mr Larry Kwaku Attafuah, a special assistant to the Minister of Education during the Kufuor administration and Mrs Victoria Amoah, aka Madam Afia Amoah, wife of Mr Robert Kwasi Amoah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Achiase Constituency and her son, Augustine Nana Boakye. Both human and vehicular traffic came to a halt for hours when the two leading personalities and a large group of leading members of the NPP and their supporters reached the outskirts of Oda. From reliable sources, the traffic started at Winneba Junction, through Agona Swedru, Akyem Akroso, Akyem Manso, Asene and peaked at Oda.It was hectic for the police personnel, led by the Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Issah Mohammed Cantona, to control the traffic for Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage to get access to the Oda Emmanuel Presbyterian Church to attend the burial service of the late Madam Attafuah. When Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia got down from the four-wheeled vehicle, it was difficult for them to get access to the church building as everybody wanted to either shake hands with them or catch a glimpse of them. Some of the people were heard shouting loudly: “Nana- Addo is the next presidentâ€, “Nana Addo come and rescue us from our economic hardshipsâ€, “Nana Akufo-Addo, we thank you for your patience and toleranceâ€, “Nana Akufo-Addo, you are the man of peace, “Dr Bawumia is an excellent scholar and economist.â€In the midst of the burial service, hell nearly broke loose when lawyer Philip Addison emerged at the ceremony, with the old and young shouting, “Pink sheets, pink sheets, pink sheets,†a situation which brought the service to a temporary halt. When the burial service was over and Nana Akufo-Addo, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and their entourage, which included Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Mr Boakye Agyarko, Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba and a host of MPs, were leaving the church building to join their vehicles, the human traffic situation became very difficult as those who were waiting outside struggled to shake hands with them. From the church, a large number of people followed Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage to the Ages Abba Hotel at Oda where they were refreshed before they continued their journey to Achiase to sympathise with Mr Amoah.Story: Samuel Kyei-Boateng /Daily Graphic / Ghana
