Atlantic Lithium Mining Company have made a cheque donation to the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly and the Abura Asebu Kwaman Kese District Assembly as part of efforts to support some schools that have had their building ripped off as a result of heavy rains.
Part of the money is also meant to be used for renovation works on some schools in the two districts.
The Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly received an amount of two hundred and seventy-five thousand five hundred and ninety-six cedis while the Abura Asebu Kwaman Kese District Assembly also received twenty-eight thousand four hundred and forty cedis as part of the support package.
Speaking to Citi News after presenting the cheque to the various assemblies, the Community Relations and Social Performance Manager of Atlantic Lithium Dr. Millicent Aning Agyie noted that the donation is part of giving back to the society where they operate.
According to her, the company is ready to support the communities where it operates adding that the move is meant to foster greater collaboration between the company and residents.
“On June 2, 2024 communities within the Mfantsiman and Abura Asebu Kwamankese District Assembly witnessed heavy rains leading to some schools having their roofs ripped off. As an organization working in the enclave, we thought it wise to come in and support and so we collaborated with the two assemblies, the education service directorate to change the narrative.
“Currently, we are in the rainy season and it is important that we come to their aid and bring activities to normalcy. This is part of giving back to society and we are ready to do more “Community Relations and Social Performance Manager told Channel One News.
We are committing financial support of over three hundred thousand cedis to support three schools in Mfantsiman, namely Barfikrom Basic School, Krofu Methodist Basic School and T.I Ahmadiyya School in Salt Pond. But for Abura Asebu Kwamankese we are supporting only one school and that is Afrangua Basic School” Dr Millicent Aning Agyie said.
Municipal Chief Executive for Mfantsiman Ike Lord Ennu expressed his excitement about the gesture adding that this support will ease the burden on the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly.
“Mining of Lithium in the enclave is a process and the company is committed to go through the process to acquire their mining licence. But I must say that the presence in this community has been beneficial and we hope going forward we will build better collaboration with them. I am optimistic that their activities in the community will benefit us in terms of expanding our local economy” Municipal Chief Executive Ike Lord Ennu noted.

Atlantic Lithium Mining Company the entity mining for lithium in twelve communities in Mfantsiman and Abura Asebu Kwamankese Districts of the Central Region say the project will make Ghana a global producer of hard rock lithium.
Chief Executive Officer Keith Muller noted that the construction face of the project will create over 800 New jobs for Ghanaians while contributing to the local industries and infrastructural development initiatives focused on sustainable social economic growth.
“As we await Parliamentary ratification on the mining lease, EPA Permit, and Mine Operating permit I can say on authority that we have met all the mining lease requirements including the delivery of a study report evaluating downstream processing of lithium, successfully listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange, a study on the production of field and it’s support for the local ceramic and associated industries in Ghana among others “Keith Muller noted.
Keith Muller again indicated that the company intends to work shoulder to shoulder with locals while implementing industry-standard sustainable practices to ensure that the land they are working on is appropriately managed and rehabilitated while also ensuring that the project continues beyond the life of the mine.
The Omanahene of Mankessim Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI indicated his commitment to ensure that the findings and recommendations made in the Environmental Impact Statement which spells out the entire operations of the mining company, what they intend to do in the community as a way of giving back and the plans for locals are made to materialise.
He indicated that a committee will be set up to ensure that recommendations such as the siting of a factory for locals, improvement in the education sector of the communities they operate in, and employing locals among others see the light of day.
“We sat with the team and made some recommendations which were tabled in the Environmental Impact Statement and we will ensure that everything in that book sees the light of day which is in the interest of our people “Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI said.
The Environmental Protection Agency indicated its support to ensure that the twelve communities where the mining company is operating benefit from the proceeds of the natural resource.
According to Engineer Ransford Sakyi, although the operations of the mining company will impact the landform, the water quality of the people and the environment they will be operating in, plans are tabled in the Environmental Impacts Station on how they can mitigate these challenges.
He noted that community members have also been schooled on how to report anything untoward to the agency.
“The company presented the project to us, and its impact and issues of air pollution, water, and resettlements among others were tabled in it. However, they also presented solutions on how they will deal with the issues. Issues of compensation were also tabled in the EIS. But in the unlikely event that there are shortcomings we will be there to help and change the narrative “Engineer Ransford Sakyi the Executive Director of Operations for the Environmental Protection Agency said.
