The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Training Centre has announced an innovative Youth Apprenticeship Programme aimed at empowering young Ghanaians with skills in electrical engineering and energy management.
The programme, which commences in June 2024, is a weekend training initiative which will be held at the ECG Training Centre in Tema – Community 10 Junction.
Designed for individuals aged 16 to 25, the 12-weekend programme aims to foster self-employment and support the government’s mission to reduce youth unemployment in the country.
Ing. Godfred Mensah, Director of the ECG Training Centre, in a statement, highlighted the importance of the training saying, “Our Youth Apprenticeship Programme is not just about teaching young people to be electricians; it’s about empowering them to be pioneers of their future and of the energy sector. We are committed to providing a platform for creativity, entrepreneurship, and growth.”
The initiative serves as an opportunity for youths to acquire essential skills that will not only enhance their employability within the sector but also support them in starting their entrepreneurial ventures.
A part of the statement indicated, “Participants in the program will benefit from the expertise of seasoned professionals and access to state-of-the-art facilities at the ECG Training Centre. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and support in entrepreneurial ventures and also skills for the job market within the sector.”
