The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has launched its maiden e-learning awareness campaign with the introduction of courses tailored to the specific needs of its target audience.
The KAIPTC’s four-day e-learning awareness campaign is funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) and the Norwegian government.
Delivering his speech, the Commandant of KAIPTC, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, indicated that the centre is committed to providing quality education and training opportunities to students, regardless of geographic constraints.
“I think we can say that KAIPTC’s efforts to embrace digital learning are a testament to our commitment to providing quality education and training opportunities to all, regardless of geographic constraints or circumstances. We stand at the precipice of a new era in education and training, and e-learning is and will be one of the most versatile, booming, emerging, and growing trends or products in the world of education,” he said.
He entreated Africans and people living in the diaspora to seize the opportunities that e-learning offers.
“Let us seize the opportunities that e-learning provides and share our knowledge and expertise with one another. Together, we can chart a path towards a brighter future for KAIPTC, our partners, and the broader global community we serve. Indeed, technology has made personalized learning a reality and obliterated geographic boundaries, enabling global collaboration in ways we could only dream of before. Learners can connect with peers, mentors, and experts worldwide, bringing diverse perspectives into the learning environment,” he stated.
The Commandant of KAIPTC stated that the center has enrolled 3,000 students in its e-learning courses since its inaugural launch in 2020.
“Since the launch of KAIPTC’s inaugural eLearning course in 2020, there have been over 3,000 enrollments in the various available e-courses. This not only underscores the dynamic and viable nature of eLearning as a means of delivering training but also its pivotal role in advancing strategic goals, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining the longevity of the Center’s post-graduate academic programs,” he said.
On her part, Teresa Krafft, a team leader in the ECOWAS Peace and Security Architecture and Operations Project, underscored the importance of e-learning.
“E-learning offers opportunities and access to learners to build their competence in a flexible way, regardless of their geographic location. It is a more convenient, less costly way of learning which can reach target groups who have been underserved in the past, following the aim of the SDG principle of leaving no one behind,” she said.
Krafft said KAIPTC’s e-learning is critical in bolstering its competitive advantage.
“E-learning is critical to bolstering KAIPTC’s competitive advantage as a Training Centre of Excellence on the African continent and beyond,” she said.
Some of the courses offered through KAIPTC’s e-learning platform include conflict management, peace support operations, and peace and security studies.
