The 2022 edition of Citi FM and Citi TV’s Heritage Month has been officially launched.
The Heritage Month, beginning tomorrow, [Tuesday] March 1st, 2022, is a month-long education and exploration of Ghana commemorated every year in March to celebrate Ghana’s rich culture, heritage, and most importantly to promote tourism.
It would begin with the on-air series on Mondays to Thursdays on both TV and radio at 9:30 am during the morning shows.
The first week will look at places of historical interest; castles, and towns that have historical interest to Ghanaians. Interviews of people who have been touring and have documented them will be held; Steve Ababio, a photographer who documents beautiful scenes of tourist sites in the country will be featured.
Also, historian, Kwaku Darko Ankrah will be educating on the historical significance of places like Salt Pond, Anomabu, all in the Central Region.
Week two and three will look at Food and Music which is a huge part of our heritage. More of Ga music will be looked at, as Ga musicology is embedded with a lot of history.
With the Food, there will be talks on the indigenous food, ingredients used, and all food matters. Dr. Alberta Bonzi Simpson will help with that education.
This year’s Heritage Month, which is in its 6th year, as always will see patrons on a seven-day road trip to regions across the country on the Heritage Caravan, an on-air series on the history and dynamic cultures of Ghana; Fashion, looking at it all the way back from the olden days to the present age.
The Heritage Caravan
The road trip (Heritage Caravan), will begin on March 5 to March 12, 2022. The caravan will travel through 8 regions of Ghana in 7 days in the most epic way.
The trip is to help promote tourism and enlighten Ghanaians on our beautiful culture by making them have a feel of the different cultures in the country amongst the various different ethnic groups.
The Caravan will start from the Greater Accra Region, and continue to the Central, Western, Bono, Northern, Upper East, Ashanti, and the Eastern Regions respectively. It will make stops at historical sites in these regions, and patrons will have the opportunity to learn about compelling facts, and amazing cultural discoveries during these visits.
The trip begins from Accra with have a Kenkey party as a start off at the Accra Tourism Information Centre opposite the Flagstaff House. Dromona will be there to provide music for patrons as well.
The next stop will be at Assin Manso, the Slave River in the Central Region, and then to Cape Coast, Ridge Royal Hotel.
The second day will be a visit to Sekondi to a place called ‘Bisa Abrewa Museum’ then to Nkruful. The next stop will be at the Maha Beach Resort in the Western Region where there will be a Bonfire Night.
The trip continues to Western North through to the Bono Region, where Sunyani will be the next stop. Yustbert Hotel will host patrons. Over there, there will be the mini ‘Food Bazaar’ at the poolside where all kinds of Ghanaian local dishes will be displayed.
Northern Region is the next stop from Sunyani. The first stop will be at the Mole National Park, before finally settling at Tamale to have a ‘cultural session’ in the evening.
The day after, the Caravan will stop at the ‘Paga Crocodile Pond’ and then a walk through Burkina Faso to have a taste of the ‘Suya’.
‘Kintampo Waterfalls’ will be the next destination and then to Kumasi for the ‘Black Tie Dinner Dance’ to celebrate participants celebrating their birthdays in the month of March.
The Caravan will move to ‘Bonwire’ to experience the weaving of Kente, then to Kwahu to the Rock City Hotel for an experience with the ‘Kwan Pa music band’ in the evening.
The Caravan will make then make a return to Accra.
On arrival, prepare for the ‘Back to your Village Food Bazaar’ to celebrate our indigenous food on March 26 and 27.
Away from the education, exploration, and adventure anticipated for this year’s road trip, patrons will also be taken out on the razzle with a line-up of activities like a Bonfire Night, Boboobo display, a mini durbar with lots of local dishes and drinks, and the chance to form life-long bonds with other entrants.
The station, for the past 10 years, has been employing various initiatives that seek to promote Ghanaian heritage and culture through Heritage Month.
Since its inception in 2016, the Caravan has been to all regions of the country, visiting tourist sites like the Mole National Park, the Military Museum in Ashanti Region, the Slave Memorial at Assin Manso, Elmina Castle, the Larabanga Mosque – one of Ghana’s architectural masterpieces, the village on stilts; Nzulezu, and the crocodile pond at Paga amongst others.
The Heritage Caravan has had impressive patronage so far.
