The Ministry of Works and Housing wants the Finance Ministry to disburse funds to be used to renovate government bungalows in bad conditions.
The Housing Ministry says it is unable to give the buildings face-lift because the residents pay rent directly into the country’s consolidated fund.
This comes on the back of calls from residents in state bungalows dotted across the country for the government to refurbish the structures.
In an interview with Citi News, Sector Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye said his outfit will engage the Finance Ministry to allocate money for repair works to be done on these buildings.
“This rent doesn’t come to the ministry. It goes to the consolidated fund.
“So we are going to work with the Ministry of Finance to make sure that a portion of these funds is allocated to the Public Works department so they also get money to maintain these government bungalows.”
