Police in Kpando have arrested a man suspected to be part of a gang of five robbers who robbed motorists on the Nkonya Asakyiri to Kpando Agbenorxoe highway on Friday.
The robbers made away with GHS21,250, mobile phones and one laptop computer, according to police.
The Kpando Divisional Police acted on intelligence to arrest the suspect, Amadu Ibrahim, aged 37.
The gang robbed motorists travelling on a Hyundai minibus on the highway linking Nkonya Asakyiri and Kpando Agbenorxoe.
The police first got the distress call on Friday at about 1:50 pm and moved to the scene of the crime.
“An official complaint was later lodged by the victims and investigation commenced into the incident whilst patrol within the area was intensified in pursuit of the robbers,” the police said.
“About 12:00 hours same day, the suspect was arrested at the Have Police Barrier while attempting to escape from the jurisdiction with some of the booty including one iPhone 7 and one Infinix phone and cash amount of GH? 7,386.10,” the police added.
Further investigation revealed that the mobile phones retrieved from the suspect are properties of two of the victims who were robbed in the minibus.
The suspect is currently assisting Police investigation and will be duly arraigned “while the accomplices are [being] pursued.”
