A Security Analyst, Adam Bona says periodic reshuffling of the top officers at the Ghana Police Service is essential to keep the service’s security strategy unknown to criminals.
According to him, re-assigning of officers will impact the fighting of crime positively.
Adam Boan’s comment comes after the Inspector General of Police reassigned 23 top officers within the security administration.
Among those reassigned was the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah who is now the Director-General in-charge of Welfare at the Ghana Police Service.
Adam Bona said;
“There is always the need to do changes periodically, at least once a year, where you will want to move officers from one position to another. And that significantly impacts positively on crime fighting. The idea is that once you do that, the enemy has to take time to do another re-assessment and so if you are fighting crime in our situation where we have a high influx of immigrants coming in from the sub region and we have been encircled by Islamist groups, it tells you that we just can’t have a flat security structure, ” he stated.
He added that COP Isaac Ken Yeboah is a bit laid back to fit into the position of a CID boss.
“You are going to be dealing with politicians. When politicians commit crimes, who will have to detain them. It will have to be done through the Criminal Investigation Department, CID. And so, when people steal cars and come into the country, who will have to make sure that these cars are impounded. It is the CID boss. For him, I am not too sure but we will give him the benefit of the doubt hoping that he goes in there and we don’t see any surge in stolen cars being driven on our streets and money laundering issues,” he added.
