Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the special aide to former President John Mahama, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will deliver a winning manifesto ahead of the 2020 general election with ease.
Joyce Bawa Mogtari was speaking on Eyewitness News where she assured that the NDC was poised for victory next year.
She indicated that party’s manifesto will be developed by “great minds” whose ideas will fall in line with the expectations of Ghanaians to bring them the relief they so desire and deliver them from the NPP’s “shackles of poverty”.
“We have more time to come up with a manifesto. When it comes to ideas, I think everybody knows that the NDC has great minds led by fantastic individuals who have done amazing things and that in terms of churning out ideas for the good people of Ghana, it is never in doubt that we have solid ideas that are going to come up. That is why the NDC called on well-meaning Ghanaians to consult extensively to bring out ideas Ghanaians want to see. I do believe that finally, when the manifesto committee comes out with our manifesto, it will be that winning document that takes us to the next election.”
Meanwhile, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, says the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 elections has left Ghanaians in a remorseful state.
According to her, a country tour she embarked on recently showed that the citizenry is in despair by harsh economic conditions and extremely difficult living standards brought on Ghanaians by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She maintained that, although the propaganda the NPP trumpeted with issues like better living conditions and a commitment to fight corruption might have won them the elections, these have not been honoured as promised by the government.
“I have actually been going around the country. I sense there is a certain nostalgia in the good people of Ghana that on some of the reasons and issues that Ghanaians stood upon and decided to vote us out. There have been some expressions of regret in some regard. Ghanaians now realize that there was enormous propaganda. Ghanaians are of the view that when you look at matters such as hardship, it has not changed. If anything- it has only gotten worse. If you look at corruption, for instance, the government that campaigned largely on matters that had to do with corruption has itself not done too much three years down the line,” she noted.
The NDC announced that it is soliciting inputs from the general public, civil society organizations, trade unions, and other identifiable groups to draw up the manifesto.
Its party’s flagbearer, John Mahama also inaugurated a 21-member manifesto committee to draw up “a people’s manifesto”.
Buaben Asamoa mocks NDC over request for inputs in 2020 manifesto
The NPP earlier ridiculed the NDC saying the decision by the opposition party to take ideas from Ghanaians for its 2020 manifesto indicates that the party lacks what it takes to run the country.
Director of Communications for the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, said the NDC had nothing new to offer Ghanaians.
“Having set up a manifesto committee, their first model of business is to ask 30 million Ghanaians to think for them. I think perhaps we should help them because they are very confused. Even with all the time on their hands in opposition, they can’t find ideas to generate a manifesto that is capable of managing the affair of this country by choice.”
