Hopes of Deputy Oti Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagodzi, of representing the New Patriotic Party as its parliamentary candidate in the Nkwanta South constituency for the 2020 elections have been dashed.
He was rejected by delegates of the party in the constituency during the NPP’s parliamentary primaries held nationwide today, Saturday.
He lost to Sherifa Tijanni by just 27 votes.
The NPP parliamentary primaries in the Nkwanta South constituency had four aspirants contesting in the race.
Sherifa Tijanni won with 289 votes, with Maxwell Blagodzi coming second with 262 votes.
The NPP parliamentary primaries which took place on Saturday focused on some 100 constituencies with no sitting MPs.
The New Patriotic Party has the majority in Parliament with 169 seats but the first phase of its parliamentary primaries happened in orphan constituencies where the NDC holds sway.
The elections have ended in most constituencies except Tamale South where voting delayed.
