Sandema Sec/Tech shut down after students clashes

The Sandema Secondary Technical School in the Upper East Region has been shut down for two weeks by the District Security Council after disturbances led to the death of one student.

According to reports, some members of the school’s cadet punished some junior students yesterday, culminating in a clash among the students, which caused damage to school property.

Police in Sandema were called in by school authorities to calm the situation, but that resulted in a fresh clash between the police and the rioting students.

This led to the death of one student, with one other sustaining an injury.

Citi News‘ Upper East Regional correspondent, Fred Awuni said the students are expected to report back to school on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

“Currently I am in the school and all the students have left,” he said.
