Talensi Traditional Council engages Cardinal Resources Mining company

The Talensi Traditional Council has held a consultative engagement with an Australian mining company, Cardinal Resources ahead of its large-scale mining in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The engagement was organized by the President of the Talensi Traditional Council, Tongran Kulbilsong Nalebtang to sensitize his chiefs and Tindanas about Cardinal Resources Mining project to be undertaken between Beug and Datoku in the Talensi District.

It sought to explain to the council in detail, the scope of work to be done in the area and the benefits the traditional area will derive thereof.

Tongran Kulbilsong Nalebtang, remarked that, the stakeholder engagement was to afford chiefs, Tindanas and opinion leaders to discuss with Cardinal resources at the preliminary stage, issues of resettlement of households and economic trees to be affected as well as their corporate social responsibility.

He said, the outcome of the meeting will enable stakeholders to police one another’s commitment for the overall development of the Talensi area.

Tongran, appealed to the Chiefs and Tindanas to create a conducive working environment in the area that will attract more investors.

He hinted that, all mining companies in the area will soon be called to debrief the traditional council about their operations and their commitment to the development of the area.

Speaking at the Talensi traditional council in Tongo, Consultant of Cardinal resources mining limited, Dr. Charles F.A Akayuli said, final feasibility studies on a 20 square kilometre land concession when completed and issued with a license to commence operations, will benefit the area enormously.

Dr. Akayuli said, Cardinal resources will mine 129 million tons of gold ore in the area and construct a dam to contain 139 million tons of waste from the gold ore.

The company’s processing plant will also process 9.5 million tons of ore yearly thus making it the single largest plant in Ghana.

“Cardinal resources will ensure that all economic trees and pieces of land to be affected by our operations shall be compensated and affected houses will be relocated”.

Dr. Akayuli indicated that, the mine will create thousands of both skilled and unskilled jobs with priority given to the indigenes.

He hinted that, Cardinal Resources Mining company limited will commence operations in the area 18 months after it has secured the environmental license form the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Chiefs and Tindanas however, impressed on Cardinal Resources Mining limited to keep to best mining practices and employ more of its staff from the immediate impacted communities to be affected by their operations.
