The Municipal Chief Executive of the Akuapen North Municipal Assembly, Dennis Aboagye says the assembly is working hard to occupy any of the first five positions in the next District league table.
According to him, the Assembly has put in enough effort to enable it get to the top spot.
The Akuapen North Municipal Assembly currently occupies the 186th position on the table.
The municipality is about 30 minutes drive to Ghana’s capital, Accra and 45 minutes to the Tema Port.
This proximity according to the Municipal Chief Executive places the Assembly at an advantageous position in terms of marketing itself amongst the business community.
Mr Aboagye noted that “my vision as the Municipal Chief Executive is to create a local economy, where we are able to produce, earn money and spend same within the municipality for the benefit of our people.”
Speaking at the launch of a newspaper dubbed Akuapeman North Municipality News under the headline ‘Okuapemman rising, two years of NPP in Akuapem North, the MCE catalogued a number of achievements of his administration and that of the NPP over the past two years.
According to the MCE, Dennis Aboagye, the Assembly has achieved an overall target of about 75 percent of promises made to the people of Okuapemman.
“Prior to the NPP winning power, and upon me assuming office, we made specific promises to the people of Okuapemman and I can tell you on authority that about 75% of those promises have been achieved,” he said.
Among the projects catalogued in the newly launched newspaper are the construction of a 12-unit-classroom block at Mampong, 16-seater modern toilet at Akropong Osaenbronmu, teachers quarters at Mampong, dormitory block at Mount Sinai among others.
Mr Aboagye noted that “the Assembly has currently registered about 430 artisans within the municipality under an initiative dubbed the artisans’ brigade.”
Under the artisans’ brigade, the MCE said every government project to be executed in the area must employ, about 60% of workers from the local artisanry.
The MCE further announced that the Assembly has demarcated about 200 acres of land at Kwamoso to provide cleared and ploughed land together with some free seedlings and irrigation to the youth to encourage them to go into agriculture.
Mr Aboagye believed the interventions being put in place will help develop the people of Okuapemman and enable the assembly to become a permanent occupant of the top five municipal assemblies in Ghana.
He also urged investors to look no further but turn their location towards the Akuapem North Municipality as there are several business opportunities within the area including real estate, tourism, health and spa, agriculture, among others.
The MCE added that the Assembly has earmarked an area at Kwamaso purposely for industrial purposes where investors could take advantage of to build their factories.
Mr Aboagye further said the newspaper which will be distributed for free and will be produced every two years to highlight the achievements of the NPP government.
