Relative calm in Chereponi after weekend of violence

There is relative calm in the North East regional town of Chereponi after three days of clashes between Anufuls and Konkombas.

The violence led to the death of two persons and the displacement of many others.

Five persons have so far been picked up by the security personnel in connection with the unrest and are currently helping with investigations.

Several persons also sustained various degrees of injuries.

Police in Chereponi have said they are on high alert over concerned there may be more attacks in the area.

The Chereponi Police Commander, Henry Amankwatia told Citi News the police are receiving calls about plans by some persons to burn more communities.

He further added the numbers of security personnel available to deal with the situation is woefully inadequate.

Right now, it is quiet. We don’t know what is going to happen in an hour or two… men are already on the ground but it’s like it is not enough.”

“The police we need more drivers. Those who will be going for the night patrol cannot also be going for the day patrols so the drivers that we have, we need about two drivers per car,” he said.
