There has been a fire outbreak at the new Makola Shopping mall in the central business district, Accra.
The fire, which is reported to have begun at around 7 am was caused by an explosion according to an eyewitness at the scene.
An eyewitness who spoke to Citi News said there was a loud noise from what they suspect to be an explosion.
“Around 7 am getting to 8 am; I saw the workers of the building running out with smoke everywhere. The workers said there was an explosion. The fire service has been here for a while, but the fire has been brought under control,” he said.
The fire service is currently trying to put out the fire. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed by the fire service.
Last year December, Fire gutted some shops around the State Insurance Company (SIC) mall located at Makola in the central business district, Accra.
The fire, which occurred on Christmas Day, destroyed items worth thousands of cedis.
It was unclear yet what caused the fire, but personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had a hard time bringing the fire under control.
Three out of the five floors of shops had their stocks completely burnt with the other two salvaged.
