The Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, is of the view that although the party has done enough for Ghanaians, it needs to focus more on ongoing initiatives instead of introducing new initiatives.
The public continues to wonder if indeed the NPP is delivering on its mandate with its myriad of promises to Ghanaians in the run to the 2016 general elections.
But speaking on the Point Blank segment on Eyewitness News on Tuesday to assess the two years of the Akufo-Addo government, the Adentan MP said the party has performed creditably, but insists that there is the need to shift attention in order to re-energize the government.“I think we are doing too much and that we will benefit from consolidating what we have done and investing more in where we have gotten. Many of the things we are doing, is turning out results, but those results need fine-tuning. Many of our promises have been validated because we are now implementing them as policies and running the budget through them.”
“I believe strongly that we need to take a step back, slow down on new initiatives and invest more in what we have done”, he noted.
We’ll give a good account after 4 years – Nana Addo
President Akufo-Addo is optimistic that his government will give a good account to Ghanaians at the end of the 4-year term in office.
According to him, the good deeds of the government are gradually clearing what he describes as a “mess” left behind by the Mahama government.
He noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government during the 2016 electioneering campaign made several promises to Ghanaians and has delivered on some.
“We have to work together so that the things that we told the Ghanaian people that got them to give us their confidence and trust we can deliver them. We’ve delivered some; there are still others to go. But if we all continue to work hard and keep our eyes on the ball, I’m very confident that when the 4 years are over we will be able to give a good account of ourselves to the people of Ghana,” he said.
Ghanaians ready to change ‘lying’ Akufo-Addo gov’t – Mahama
Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has observed that Ghanaians are willing and ready to vote out the New Patriotic Party government.
According to him, this is because of the “unprecedented hardship” presented by the government led by President Akufo-Addo.
John Mahama, who was defeated by a wide margin by the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 presidential elections as an incumbent, said his tour of seven out of the ten regions of the country revealed that Ghanaians were eager to vote out the NPP to change the negative course in the upcoming Presidential elections in 2020.
“Across the seven regions I have so far visited, Ashanti being the latest, the message from our grassroots is one- “to unite and work to deliver Ghanaians from the unprecedented hardship imposed by the lying Akuffo-Addo administration…. The people of Ghana are ready and willing to change the negative course in the 2020 elections,” he said.
