Board member of the Egyptian Football Federation Karam Kordy Abdel Fattah has moved to allay fears over the time left to prepare for the 2019 Afcon after they were announced as hosts by the Confederation of African Football(CAF).
Egypt beat South Africa to the rights with a 16 to 1 vote and will replace original hosts Cameroon who were stripped of the hosting rights over delays in preparations and security concerns.
Despite boasting some of the best football infrastructure on the continent there are still fears over Egypt’s ability to be thoroughly ready for the competition which commences on June 15 and ends on July 13.
However Karam Kordy believes Egypt have distinguished themselves when they have hosted the tournament in the past and will once again deliver.
“We are very happy and I promise that Egypt will do the best to make this tournament a very good one come June-July.
“We have a short period but Egypt is ready to host this competition.
“I promise that all the participating nations will be very comfortable and happy in our country.
“We thank all the African nations that voted for Egypt,”he emphasized.
This will be the fifth time Egypt will be hosting the AFCON as the country hosted the tournament in 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006.
