The Municipal Chief Executive for Weija Gbawe Municipality, Patrick Kumor has cautioned churches and event organisers to control the rate at which they litter the Municipality with posters and flyers.
According to the MCE, these flyers and posters destroy the beauty of the Municipality.
He again added that plans are far advanced to put up an advertising board for these churches and other event organisers to market their products.
He was however quick to add that they would be distributing litter bins in the coming days as a measure to curb the high volume of rubbish generated in the municipality.
The MCE made these remarks during a cleanup exercise organised yesterday by the Weija Gbawe Municipality.
Speaking to Citi News during the cleanup exercise, Patrick Kumo said the Assembly will put litter bins at vantage point in the municipality.
“In the new Millennium that we find ourselves, sanitation should be our priority,” the MCE added.
The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe constituency, Tina Naa Ayele Mensah said the Assembly would be working with sanitation officers in the assembly to arrest those who defecate around the Municipality and litter unnecessarily around.
“We will award the sanitation officers we send to make the arrest if they refuse to take bribes as a way of encouraging them to do more.”
Tina Mensah was, however, quick to add that they would prosecute those who are found guilty of littering to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We want to help the president’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in West Africa feasible”the Member of Parliament added.
